Greetings Fellow SSS Members,
We're looking for a volunteer to take charge of the Great Pacific Longitude
Race - a race chairperson who will be responsible for all the duties
associated with the race.
The LongPac is our 400 mile offshore shorthanded race held in odd years, and
is often used as a qualifier by skippers planning to enter the TransPac. The
Race Chair organizes and runs the event, with typical duties including:
* Coordinating with Golden Gate Yacht Club.
* Organizing a seminar at Oakland or Encinal with race veterans.
* Signing up race committee volunteers for the start and finish.
* Handling results and trophies.
As the LongPac is one of the premier SSS events, we would like to get the
Race Chair signed up and on board as soon as possible so that we can get an
early start on the planning. Remember, The SSS relies on the volunteer
efforts of its members to put on our races and other events - we have no
paid staff and do not hire outside race management services. If you have
entered any of our races, you have benefited from other members serving as
Race Committee. Please return the favor by considering this call for
volunteers. You can reply to me directly at mdeppe77-sss2 at yahoo.com.
Don't make me send out the press gangs. It could get ugly.
Sincerely,
Mark Deppe
Commodore, Singlehanded Sailing Society
