SSS Racers,
As you are probably aware, we had an unfortunate series of incidents with
commercial shipping traffic during the last half of the SSS East Bay Estuary
race. As a result, two boats have already disqualified themselves. However,
there are several other boats that were involved that we have not heard
from.
We need the other boats involved to identify themselves so that we can
straighten this out. If you have any suspicion that your boat may have
appeared to impede either of the two commercial vessels during last
Saturday's race, please email me immediately. Furthermore, if you have any
information about what boats were involved, please also email me.
This was an unfortunate set of circumstances with two ships coming in at the
same time as the fleet converged on the same area. The first ship made a
hard turn to port to enter the Oakland outer harbor, and it wasn't
immediately obvious where he was going. However, Rule 9 still applies and we
need to take this incident seriously or run the risk of losing our permits
to race. Please give me any assistance you can.
Thanks,
Mark Deppe
